I first learned about hydroponics when I was studying sustainability at Columbia University. Having spent 20 years in the beauty industry, I thought it would be interesting to formulate premium skincare that uses the sustainable technology of hydroponics at its core.

As part of my research, I reached out to a close friend who is a cosmetic chemist. Renee and I both have a love of nature and healthy living and our work ethics are influenced by strong family values and making a positive difference in the world. Together, we began to craft our dream beauty brand, experimenting with distilled hydroponic tomato extracts from a makeshift lab in Renee’s kitchen. Eventually, we developed our exclusive key ingredient, Super-Lycopene Hydrosol, which is derived from hydroponically grown tomatoes. The hydrosol is a pure and potent form of lycopene, a powerful antioxidant with anti-aging skin benefits. Antioxidant power fights skin-aging free radicals and toxin build-up. It supports our natural collagen to improve skin’s firmness. And it encourages skin’s natural repair to give a smoother, younger-looking complexion.

At Marlo, we believe in beauty and a better world. We love that our skincare line delivers sustainable benefits to both the consumer and the environment. Bloom Lush Revitalizing Cream is the first product in the Marlo Hydroponic Skincare line. It is an intensive moisturizer that instantly revitalizes and helps skin sustain a more youthful look now and into the future. We base our core technology on hydroponics, an agricultural farming method that far surpasses conventional farming on many dimensions of sustainability. Hydroponics conserves both land and water. Some experts estimate that hydroponics consumes 1/20th of the amount of water used in traditional field farming. It also allows operators to eliminate the use of harmful fertilizers and pesticides and other soil impurities that cause contaminated run-off, which pollutes aquifers. When responsibly done, hydroponics is green, clean, and respectful of the environment.

In addition to being a plant-based and socially responsible facial cream, our product is formulated with the low toxicity standards set by the Environmental Working Group (EWG). This means that our cream is free of mineral oil, parabens, phthalates, silicone, synthetic fragrances, and other harmful ingredients. We also strive to be as sustainable as possible with our packaging. The jar is made of recyclable glass and the cap is produced with a process that eliminates the release of volatile organic compounds. We source the carton material from producers that are certified by the Forest Stewardship Council.

At Marlo Hydroponic Skincare, it is our goal to provide our customers with the best possible skincare available. We also believe that it is our responsibility to educate the public about environmental sustainability, and have done so with blog posts on our website.
